The close-call rescue: why 45% is the magic number

An illustrated graduate under a glass dome marked 45% safety net, with failing grades blowing away and a laptop showing 47%

We've all been there. You've spent weeks in the library, survived on caffeine, and poured everything into that one "monster" module.

Then the results portal loads, and your heart sinks. 47%.

It's the ultimate academic curveball. You were so close to the finish line, yet you're stuck with the bill for a retake. At Studii, we don't think a near-miss should derail your entire future. That's why we created financial protection specifically for university students' module costs.

Our core promise is to back students every step of the way. We aren't here to reward a total lack of effort; we're here to catch you when life throws a wrench in your academic gears.

"A solid semester mark shows you were engaged with the material all along. One bad exam shouldn't undo that."

Why 45% is our magic number

All you need is 45% for your semester mark. If the module's semester mark (also called the progress or year mark) is at least 45%, you write the exam and your final mark comes out below 50%, we pay for the module. Here is why this threshold matters:

  • It rewards your effort. A semester mark of 45% or more shows you were engaged with the material throughout the semester.
  • It keeps you enrolled. Failing a module can be expensive, but when your semester mark was there, we step in to cover the module cost and help you stay in school.
  • It provides a safety net. Knowing you have this backup allows you to walk into that exam hall with a clearer mind.

How to build your safety net

Getting protected is simpler than your last stats assignment:

Note: Payouts are made once your results are verified.

Real protection for real students

As a licensed Financial Service Provider (FSP: 53052), we take your future seriously. We've collaborated with the Financial Sector Conduct Authority to ensure that when we say we've got your back, we mean it.

Don't let a "close call" become a financial crisis. Focus on your wins, and let us handle the setbacks.

"By partnering with financial aid providers and institutions directly, we can spread the risk further — potentially lowering the 45% threshold and the cost of protection for every student."

We're actively looking to collaborate with universities, colleges, and financial aid organisations who share our commitment to student success. When an institution partners with Studii, the risk is distributed across a much larger pool — which means we can offer broader coverage at a lower cost, and potentially reduce the qualifying semester mark below 45%. This is how we make module protection accessible to every student, not just a few.

If your institution is interested in exploring what a partnership could look like, we'd love to hear from you.
